APSA has held two SimGOV forums in August 2017 and March 2018. The inaugural forum provided case studies using modelling, simulation and gaming. The 90 participants in attendance understood how to improve decision-making prior to a major procurement and training strategies for operations and teams in low probable high-risk situations. The 'Future Ready' forum focused on raising the awareness of modelling and simulation applications and the benefits for a strategic 10-year plan.
SimGOV was developed as an entire government initiative with the purpose to discuss the use of simulation and modelling across the public sector. SimGOV was formed for federal, state and local government agencies to look at operational risk management and how to apply it to their operations.
The second forum looked at business continuity and collaborative agency incident response to develop 'Future Ready' agencies. Participants worked as cross agency teams on tables and were provided with a different hypothetical catastrophic incident whereby throughout the two days they identified how this could affect their workplace and the community. Presenters will introduced participants to M&S techniques to apply to their incidents.
APSA is working on a Master of Simulation, Visualisation, and Immersive Environments together with the University of New South Wales. This unique program will be the first of its kind in Australia, combining academic and industry knowledge by bringing simulation and immersive technology experts from around the world, and around the nation, to share practical knowhow to address needs in the growing fields of Modelling, Simulation and Immersive Technologies.
Simulation and Emerging Immersive Technologies, such as AR and VR, are major forces contributing to massive change across industry sectors. They are considered by many to be the future enablers of technological and industry innovation. This degree is to prepare the workforce for the future. Targeted at providing professionals the knowledge and skills to enable them to drive sustainable change and improvement in managing complex environments through the medium of simulation and immersive technologies.
The APSA project team has undertaken several consultancies for Australian Government Agencies. Sample projects include the APSA AUSTRADE consultancy to research, collate and develop an Australian capability map for 4.0 technologies. Austrade was seeking to promote Australia's competitive advantage in emerging 4.0 technologies, positioning businesses to take advantage of new technology platforms. Aware that simulation and augmented reality were pivotal emerging technologies seen as future foundations of new and existing industries, Austrade wanted to identify and articulate Australia's capability, capacity and appetite to export these technologies, products and services through a capability mapping exercise.
APSA has developed Advanced Master Classes in a Professional Development Program aiming to bring Simulation Experts from around the world and around the nation to share practical knowledge and address emerging needs in workforce development. The first suite of master classes was delivered exclusively to a cohort of Defence personnel in Canberra across 2016. Working with the Department of Defence, APSA designed a program to address both individual and organisational challenges through the presentation of best practice theory, methods and tools. By using real world case studies, and facilitated by experienced practitioners, APSA aims to improve the collective knowledge and enhancing the capabilities of employees and stakeholders.
An international Platform bringing together simulation users, developers, researchers and government to share, learn and collaborate
