My academic background is in the area of robotics with a Computer Vision and sensor processing focus. I have developed simulation systems for testing aspects of the various robotic exploration and sensor analysis projects I have been involved in. Many of these focused on developing simulations to begin development before the system was developed and able to be field tested, as well as to explore some of the limits of the system’s more automated aspects. More recently I have been developing methods to verify that the simulation environments created using game engine technology have validated physics (published at SimTecT 2014) and simulating unmanned vehicle manoeuvres (published at MODSIM 2013). I am also researching how to validate the visual component of virtual world simulations using gaming engines in order to provide validated dynamic synthetic environments. These are intended for Military/Defence applications and advice to the Australian Defence Force, but do have a range of applications in unmanned systems and other domains.
